Runway Safety Area (RSA) Alternatives Study

AVCON’ evaluated three (3) construction
alternatives for meeting current FAA safety area
requirements for Runway 33, in particular, increasing
the extended runway safety area for landings and
rollouts associated with the Runway 33 end. The study
considered the use of Engineered Material Arresting
Systems (EMAS) at the approach of Runway 33 in lieu of,
and/or in conjunction with, an improved graded runway
safety area. A Life Cycle Cost (LCC) analysis was also
performed for the three (3) alternatives studied.
