Taxiway B East and Associated Improvements
Orlando
Sanford
International Airport
Sanford, FL
Owner:
Sanford Airport Authority
This
project consisted of the extension of Taxiway B East and
Associated Improvements. AVCON provided
engineering and design services for approximately 40,000
square yards of flexible subbase and base course
construction, 17,700 tons of P-401 bituminous pavement,
airfield lighting, signs, REILs, and miscellaneous
drainage items.
In the
former configuration, various aircraft that required the
full runway length were required to back-taxi and
perform a U-turn on the runway prior to takeoff. The
extension of Taxiway B and associated connectors greatly
improved traffic circulation, provided increased
airfield capacity, and reduced runway dwell time.
AVCON's
professional services included surveying and
geotechnical investigation, wetlands mitigation, T&E
species surveys and mitigation, drainage design and
permitting, regulatory and funding agency coordination,
airfield design, airfield lighting and signage design,
bidding services and complete construction phase
services.
