Rehabilitation of Runway 14-32
Okeechobee
Municipal Airport
Okeechobee, FL
Owner:
Okeechobee County Board of Commissioners
This project comprised the
total reconstruction of the existing Runway 14-32, with
the exception of the intersection with the airports
crosswind runway, 5-23. The work incorporated several
different alternates for treating the pavement. The
final solution, which also represented the least cost
option, provided for a process called cold in-place
recycling, where the entire pavement was tilled into a
homogeneous based course, including additional asphalt
emulsion. The proper grades were restored in the
placement of the recycled base course, after which a new
2-inch wearing course of P-401 was provided to complete
the pavement. New visual pavement markings were added
as well. The project also included an emulsion slurry
seal coat on the shoulders to seal the shoulders from
Foreign Object Debris (FOD) hazards.
AVCON’s professional
services included surveying, geotechnical,
investigations, airfield design & paving, marking, sealcoat, bidding, construction phase and resident
inspection services.
