Runway Safety Area (RSA) Improvements

civil, lighting and NAVAID design and is currently
providing construction phase services for this RSA
project that includes safety area improvements
incorporating the construction of safety areas at both
ends of the runway, relocation of a road and creek,
relocation of secured perimeter roads, the 325-foot
extension of the runway and taxiway, installation and
relocation of NAVAIDs, and rehabilitation of the runway
and parallel taxiway. The 7,000-foot runway will then be
centered on the 8,200-foot platform with 600-foot RSA's
on both ends for departures. For arrivals, reducing the
available landing length to 6,600 feet is to provide, in
both directions, a 600-foot RSA for the approach end,
and a 1,000-foot RSA for the rollout end. Modified and
declared distances in combination with runway edge
lighting techniques will be utilized to provide a
minimum of 1,000-foot RSA's at the rollout ends of the
runway for arriving aircraft.
